This is a social issue poster campaign. For people with functional illiteracy its hard to advocate for yourself and I wanted to advocate for the people who need it.
It all started with a statement, that I often say, which is “give me a minute”. Because like me, a some people need more time than you give them to speak their mind.
CAMPAIGN
FUNCTIONAL ILLITERACY
There are a lot of different ways to be illiterate, and the one that this project is focused on is functional illiteracy.
In school functionally illiterate children have a harder time understanding and comprehending. Sometimes a sentence that may be simple to you is super difficult for them to wrap their head around.
THE POSTERS
On every poster there is a different excerpt on how individuals with functional illiteracy might need a minute and above the QR code is a call to action for the person reading. By scanning the code you are taken to a website on how to recognize a functionally illiterate person, and how to help them feel included.
THE DESIGN
The brain maze as I like to call it refers to the amount of time it takes for someone who is neurodivergent or functionally illiterate. Not everything clicks right away. I wanted to portray that our brains are really cool but aren’t just from one point to the next, there is a whole different process.
